With Orleans Metropole, the local transport authority, in a six-year renewed contract for Keolis, Orleans is set to be the first city in France – and the world – to have an exclusively electric fleet of public buses by 2024.
They have been reappointed as operator of the Tao network: the 40 bus lines and 2 tram lines that serve the region’s 22 communes, making this the most ambitious ongoing project of its kind.
This is no doubt just the start for Paris-based Keolis, which operates worldwide. They also operate networks in Bordeaux, Lyon, Rennes, Lille, and Dijon, as well as internationally in Stockholm, Boston, Las Vegas, Melbourne, and London.
So success in Orleans may well spell good fortune elsewhere. Orleans could be the incubation for a worldwide public transport evolution.
