Labour shortages in UK can last up to 2 years

The country’s largest employers’ group, CBI, predicted, that shortages of workers, affecting various UK industries including construction, could last for another 2 upcoming years.

Many of these job positions were in the past filled with workers coming from EU, yet now the situation changed and businesses were advised to use British workers instead. Stagnation and inflexibility will just cause an economic damage therefore it is necessary to adapt to the new rules as fast as possible.

Main cause of these shortages is the combination of the pandemic and Brexit, which limited the number of EU workers in the UK. As a result, many companies had to cancel their planned work, as they couldn’t be sure they will have enough employers to complete it. Many businesses had also to pass the extra costs to their customers.

CBI said that the government should wider the national skills fund, so that job seekers could get trained for those job positions that are currently facing largest shortage. List of occupations that are needed most includes amongst others also welders and electrical engineers.

Help UK economy to recover faster and get trained in skilled trades!
