Style and grace aren’t often the first words that come to mind when we consider fittings. ‘Necessary’ and ‘Vital’, perhaps. ‘Durable’ and ‘Dependable’ are reserved for the most tried-and-tested amongst them. Beyond that, not much can really be said. We’re very glad they exist – as long as they work as expected, that’s plenty good enough.
However, John Guest took an almost completely unique direction with their ProLock series. They feel like… Designer fittings. I would half expect them to be delivered in a display box, with a certificate of authentication nestled carefully in the back, signed by hand in elegant cursive. A subtle but distinct logo, etched into the quality-imbued plastic, would invite you through the thin window of its dedicated box.
Isn’t that a thing of beauty? Granted, there’s not much in the way of competition in the looks department. And that’s just the beginning. Check out their movie trailer – I mean torture test:
A model and an action hero. Truly the Brad Pitt of fittings.
I’ve done some thorough digging around for a pricing of these things, but it seems like the price tag matches the branding: you’ll only get it from a direct quote from JG personally.
Are these suitable for commercial use? Probably not. Unless your client is a more aesthetically discerning individual – or you want to bring an extra flair and sense of decorum to your own home’s piping design. You can be sure that the underlying technology of the ProLock fittings will eventually filter down to more ubiquitous fittings in the coming years, though. Just like any cutting-edge technology.
