Since 2009, Gas Safe have been the official list of businesses and engineers who are registered to work on gas appliances.
It is against the law for engineers to work on gas appliances without being registered with Gas Safe; a simple check on the Gas Safe website can quickly confirm if an engineer is registered, and what appliances they are allowed to work on; an engineer’s licence can be quickly and easily checked here:

Educating the public is an effective way of ensuring that only registered engineers are working on gas installations, and to ensure that the cowboys are given the boot!
Gas Safe have come up with a new campaign to raise further awareness of the importance of only using registered engineers; you can see it here:

With greater awareness, quality and standards can only increase, which in turn will provide greater protection and assurance for the public
The problem is lots of people will go for the cheaper version and get a mate of a mate to come and give it a go, with the attitude he is a good bloke and he did his own boiler etc. More rouge traders need to be reported and fined, as us totally legal gas engineers gets a bad name from other so called handy men. 6 months in nick and a couple of grand fine would start to deter these people. Rant over.
